Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Publication ethics and malpractice statement
The Journal of Energy is a scientific and professional journal that covers the areas of the energy sector. The Journal of Energy publishes original scientific and professional articles with a wide area of interest, from specific technical problems to global analyses of processes in the energy sector. It covers a very broad range of topics relating to the electricity industry and the energy sector in general in a competitive and global environment.
Aims & Scope
The intention of the Journal of Energy is to become a scientific and professional forum where these problems will be critically and constructively elaborated and where adequate solutions will be offered. The Journal of Energy is especially interested in the following topics: the energy sector in general, electricity production technologies, renewable energy sources, and environmental protection; the use and development of energy equipment and systems; equipment maintenance; the electricity system operation in competitive market conditions; power system operation, protection, dynamics, and control; smart grids; energy economics; construction and design of electric power facilities and plants; information systems and telecommunications; reengineering of business processes; electricity trade and supply, customer relations, knowledge management, and training; European and regional energy legislation, initiatives and cooperation. More scope details are on the submissions page.
The views expressed in articles are the authors’ and not necessarily those of The Journal of Energy, HEP d.d., or HRO CIGRE.
The Journal of Energy is issued in the form of a digital web magazine for readers by the principle of a free approach. We encourage prospective authors to follow our guidelines before submitting manuscripts.
Preprint Policy
Journal of Energy (Energija) does not consider preprints as prior publication, which means that authors are allowed to present and discuss their findings on a non-commercial preprint server before submitting their work to the journal.
Withdrawal Requests
Withdrawal requests for an article are reviewed by the editorial board of the journal. To request the withdrawal of an article, the authors must send a letter signed by all authors stating their request and the reasons for withdrawal to the journal editor. The Editorial Board will then review the request and make a decision based on the reasons given by the authors. If the request is approved, the article will be withdrawn from the journal and the authors will be informed of the decision. It is important to note that authors should not submit their work to another journal for evaluation until the withdrawal request has been approved. This is to avoid potential conflicts of interest or duplicate publication.
Appeals and Complaint
The editorial board of the journal is responsible for handling objections and complaints in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations of COPE. If an author has an appeal or complaint, they should contact the editorial team directly to discuss their concerns. The editorial board will review the case and make a decision based on the COPE guidelines.
The Editor-in-Chief has the final authority on all appeals and complaints. In some cases, an ombudsperson may be appointed to resolve complaints that cannot be resolved internally. It is important to note that the journal follows a fair and transparent process for handling appeals and complaints in order to maintain the integrity of the scientific record.
Sex and Gender Equity
Journal of Energy (Energija) encourages authors to follow the ‘Sex and Gender Equity in Research – SAGER – guidelines’ when preparing their manuscripts to promote the inclusion of sex and gender considerations in research. Before submission, authors can consult EASE Guidelines for Authors and Translators to produce clear, concise and accurate manuscripts that are easy to understand and free of common errors and pitfalls.
Generative AI Policy
Journal of Energy (Energija) recognizes the growing role of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scientific research, writing, and data analysis. To ensure transparency, integrity, and accountability in scholarly publishing, the following policy applies to all submissions:
- Authorship and Responsibility
Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, etc.) cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all content submitted, including text, figures, data, and references generated or assisted by AI. - Disclosure Requirements
Any use of generative AI tools in the preparation of the manuscript must be clearly disclosed in the Acknowledgments or Methods section. Authors should specify the tool used, version, and the nature of its contribution (e.g., “used to improve language clarity,” “assisted in data visualization,” etc.). - Ethical Use
Generative AI should only be used to enhance the quality and clarity of writing, data presentation, or analysis in ways consistent with academic integrity. AI tools must not be used to fabricate data, generate falsified results, or produce deceptive content. - Data Privacy and Confidentiality
Authors must ensure that no confidential, proprietary, or unpublished data are shared with generative AI tools that process information externally. - Editorial and Peer Review
Reviewers and editors are not permitted to use generative AI tools to summarize or evaluate submitted manuscripts unless such use complies with confidentiality requirements and has been explicitly authorized by the Journal of Energy editorial board.
Journal of Energy is dedicated to following the best practices on ethical matters, errors, and retractions. The prevention of publication malpractice is one of the important responsibilities of the editorial board. Any kind of unethical behavior is not acceptable, and the Journal does not tolerate plagiarism in any form.
The Editorial Board of this publication is committed to the highest ethical and professional conduct:
- to promote the understanding of energy technology, markets, applications, and potential consequences on the society,
- to avoid real or perceived conflicts of interest, whenever possible and to disclose them to affected parties, when they exist,
- to be honest and realistic in stating claims or estimates based on available data,
- to reject bribery in all its forms,
- to seek, accept, and offer honest reviews of technical work and to credit properly the contributions of reviewers,
- to treat fairly all authors, regardless of factors such as race, religion, gender, disability, age or national origin,
- to avoid injuring others, their property, reputation, or employment by false or malicious actions.
Ethic statements of the journal are based on the COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
Plagiarism
The Journal of Energy is committed to publishing only original material, i.e., material that has neither been published elsewhere nor is under review elsewhere. Manuscripts that are found to have been plagiarized from a manuscript by other authors, whether published or unpublished, will be rejected immediately. The Journal of Energy uses iThenticate plagiarism detection software for all submitted papers.
Duplicate Submission
If authors have used their own previously published work, or work that is currently under review, as the basis for a submitted manuscript, they are required to cite the previous work and indicate how their submitted manuscript offers novel contributions beyond those of the previous work. If these contributions are not significant in comparison with the previous work, the manuscript will be rejected immediately.
Citation Manipulation
Submitted manuscripts that are found to include citations whose primary purpose is to increase the number of citations of a given author’s work, or of articles published in a particular journal, will be rejected immediately.
Improper Author Contribution or Attribution
All listed authors must have made a significant scientific contribution to the research presented in the manuscript and approved all its claims. It is important to list everyone who made a significant scientific contribution, including students and laboratory technicians.
Conflict of interest
Journal of Energy encourages all authors and reviewers to report any potential conflict of interest to ensure complete transparency regarding the preparation and reviewing the manuscript (research funding, grants, sponsorship, competing interests, etc.). The conflict of interest exists when an author (or the author’s institution) has financial (employment, consultancy, stock ownership, honoraria, and paid expert testimony) or personal relationship, academic competition, or intellectual passion that inappropriately influences his actions. In order to avoid any potential doubt about the conflict of interest for the potential authors of articles that are employed by the publisher (Hrvatska elektroprivreda and HRO CIGRE), these articles will be reviewed by international reviewers, and any publishing decision will be discussed in close cooperation amongst editor-in-chief and section editors and taken by a qualified majority vote.
